Evanger's Helps Bella with Demodectic Mange

Anna from Colorado recently wrote in to tell us how she used Evanger's to help her dog improve her demodectic mange. Thanks for the note, Anna! Hopefully you'll inspire others to use pure and natural foods to help other pets with the same diagnosis.

About 7 years ago we adopted Bella, an 8-week old mixed breed puppy from the Humane Society. They called her a Sheltie mix but didn't really know because she had been abandoned in a box with her litter-mates at about 6 weeks of age. Shortly after we got her we started noticing bare patches of skin on her face which quickly spread to her feet and legs. We took her to our veterinarian who diagnosed it as demodectic mange. Our veterinarian was very concerned, because demodectic mange can be fatal to dogs. He said there were three standard responses; first, we could give her a high dose of the same medication used for treating heart worms, but cautioned that it could kill any dog with the blue merle gene, and with her possible Sheltie heritage, advised against it. His second option was to prescribe a series of dips in a toxic bath that would hopefully kill off the mange. However, he mentioned that something like 25% of the dogs treated this way develop "drowsiness, lethargy, vomiting, diarrhea, dizziness, and a staggering gait" and can even suffer permanent neurological damage. The third option was to just hope it would go away on its own, perhaps with the help of a topical ointment, but he didn't feel very confident about this option due to the wide spread of the effected patches on Bella's skin.
I went home and did some research on the internet and found a site that stated that the mange mites feed on the yeasty secretions in the puppy's hair follicles, and if I removed anything yeast producing from my puppy's diet, the mange would go away. I picked up a case of Evanger's "Cooked Chicken" and a case Evanger's "Hunk of Beef" and within in days of feeding my puppy this high quality, grain-free dog food the mange's progress reversed itself. My veterinarian was astounded and thrilled that I had shown him such a simple and non-toxic cure for a troubling condition.

Evanger's at the Skokie Valley Kennel Club Show in Chicago

Evanger's will be at the Skokie Valley Kennel Club's show at the Rosemont Convention Center this weekend, December 9 - 11 at the Rosemont Convention Center in Chicago, Illinois. We'll be sure to post a few photos from the event. Come watch these purebred dogs compete for some great titles in competitions such as rally, conformation, obedience and CGC!

Meet Juno, the Rescued Beagle

We recently held an "I WANT SWEET POTATO!" contest on its facebook fan page, and the entries were fantastic! A very special dog, Juno, won some canned sweet potato, as well as our hearts.
Here is an excerpt from Juno Rescued Beagle's web site:

My name is Juno and I am a rescued beagle. My life started in a laboratory where I along with 119 other beagles were used as testing subjects for cosmetics and household items. In April of 2010 the lab closed their doors for good. Luckily for us some wonderful people from Best Friends Animal Society in Kanab, UT and Pets Alive Animal Sanctuary in Middletown, NY stepped in and rescued us. In the beginning I was seeing things that were completely new to me. Being outside, feeling grass, having good food and people to pet and care for me. I have a forever home with my very own family and have learned a lot about what it’s like to just be a dog and life is good.
In June of 2011 I became a certified therapy dog with Therapy Dogs International. It is my job to bring smiles and happy wags to those in the world who need it the most. Not a day goes by that I am not finding trouble or adventure, sometimes both!

I am named after the Roman Goddess, Juno who was best known for her protection of the people. I always do my best to do my job and protect my people and to bring smiles and wags to everyone I meet and to educate people about animal testing and how each of us can make small changes in our own lives to bring about an end to that outdated practice.

Well, Juno, we are SO happy you were one of the winners of our contest, and so happy you have a great forever home with great parents!! We're glad you're enjoying your sweet potato!

What are you feeding your dog? By-products, additives, and preservatives lace the ingredients of most dog foods on the market shelves. Now, when dogs are more than ever considered part of the family, why would anyone choose low-quality food to sustain them? Holly and Joel Sher, the owners of Evanger’s since 2002, can only think of reasons why people should feed the family dog food made of the highest-quality, most wholesome, and nutritious ingredients. “Many people today cook for their pets,” says Holly Sher, “and we believe that using human-grade meats is essential to keeping our pets happy and increasing their longevity.” Evanger’s, a company that was started in 1935 by Fred Evanger, has always been devoted to canine health. “[Evanger] started making his own pet food for his champion Great Danes in the 1930s because he was not satisfied with the commercial pet foods that were available to him at the time…. We strive every day to maintain Fred Evanger’s commitment to quality and quest to keep pets healthy and happy.”

Evanger’s is the only privately held and family-owned canned pet food manufacturer in the country. In fact, the Shers say that all of their ingredients are sourced from the United States, with the exception of some New Zealand lamb meats that must be imported because it is required for their overseas business. Not only that, but nearly 70% of their raw materials are sourced locally in the Chicagoland area. “Our company-owned refrigerated truck picks up the raw materials from our local suppliers on a daily basis to be used in our pet food production within 24 hours of reception,” explains Holly. That means the faster they get the ingredients canned, the fresher it will be for the dogs at home.

And the dogs at the Sher home will not eat anything less. “Of course they eat our products! They formulate our products,” says Holly. Lilly, their Siberian Husky, and Yukon, their Samoyed-Chow mix, were the reasons they invented Hunk of Beef, which is Evanger’s best-selling product today. Since Yukon was a puppy, the Shers had difficulty getting him to eat. Then they developed Hunk of Beef, which is a large piece of premium beef in a can, and Yukon went nuts for it. “Our dogs would probably go on a hunger strike if we downgraded their food. That’s one of the reasons we stay so committed to the quality of our products. We are taking the food home to our own pets.”

Over the years, the selection has grown. They have just launched a line of new products. Many customers put in requests for specific doggy dishes, and Evanger’s listens, does their research, and creates new meals. For example, canned sweet potato options have been a popular request. Next week is the Passover holiday, which means many families that observe Passover have a hard time finding food to feed their pets. Folks who observe the holiday must remove all foods that contain Chametz from their home, including their pet's food. Global Pet Expo 2011: SUCCESS!

Last week was the Global Pet Expo in Orlando, Florida. Evanger's had the opportunity to launch its new products that are hitting the market this month, including the Signature Series for Cats, canned Sweet Potato for dogs and cats, and the retro canned Beef Liver Snacks! Evanger's owners, Holly Sher and Joel Sher, had a great time meeting many store owners that carry their products during the week. Feeding Evanger's: Tips From The Vet

What are the ancillary benefits to exclusively feeding Evanger’s?

When a dog has a diet that is not balanced, a disgusting habit could result called copraphagy. This is a normal reaction when a mother gives birth to her offspring, she will ingest the waste products by licking the anogenital region of her puppies or kittens. In the wild, for the mothers that practiced copraphagy, there were no smells to lure predators and therefore, these animals would go on to reproduce. Feeding Evanger’s pet foods exclusively could resolve a pet’s disgusting habit of eating his or her own feces.
Coprophagy can happen when there is a vitamin or mineral missing from the diet. PICA is the term used when a pet eats something that should not be eaten. If a pet is suffering from PICA or copraphagy, the first thing is to change the food to a more wholesome, nutritious diet like Evanger’s. It is also important that a complete diet is chosen not a meat only one, or use the dry food in combination with any one of the canned foods.

Because the palatability of Evanger’s pet foods is so high, your dog or cat will never skip a meal unless there is a medical problem. As long as dogs drink water, it is not a dangerous situation for them to skip a meal but cats must eat every day. If a cat goes more than 2 days without eating, no matter what the primary problem is, they could develop a very serious liver problem called hepatic lipidosis or fatty liver.

A well-balanced diet like Evanger’s will give your pet a healthy, shiny coat and could add years to his or her life.

Hi all, my name is Carol Siflinger and I am the Dog Sport Exhibitor Program Director for Evanger's. Here at Evangers we don't just talk the talk we walk it as well. Over the Memorial Day Weekend my dog "Eddy" aka AKC/UKC Ch Jetstream's Drummer Boy & I competed at the Langley Kennel Club Shows. I am pleased to announce that we did quite well. On Friday, Eddy was awarded Best Of Breed and Select Dog which earned him an invite to the Sporting Group ring later that day. In Groups amongst tough competition Eddy was awarded a Group 4 placement! Woo Hoo! This is his first Group placement as a Specials dog which shows a great future lies ahead for this youngster who is just 18 months old. We are so proud of our Breeder/owner/handled boy.
Eddy is conditioned on Evangers Whitefish & Sweet Potato along with a variety of our canned formulas. His favorite bait is our Freeze Dried treats especially the Wild Salmon! We finished up the weekend with 2 more Best Of Breed wins along with making the cut in the Group on Saturday. I will keep you posted on his future accomplishments.

Evanger's 2011 Calendar Contest Is Open!

Evanger's Dog & Cat Food Co., America’s 75 year-old natural pet food manufacturer, is now accepting photographs for its 2011 edition of its annual nationwide pets calendar. 12 winners will be chosen as the pet of the month, but this year entrants will be competing for a feature spread under one of the calendar’s 4 themes:

1) Evanger’s Dog and Cat Sport Exhibitors

2) Service Dogs including (but not limited to): service pets for disabled, police & military work dogs, and search & rescue dogs.

3) Rescued pets

4) Most creative pet photo

Winners will receive Evanger’s Super Premium Canned and Dry Pet Food. The calendar will be offered free at select pet stores with a purchase of an Evanger’s product, and will be available for $4.95 through Evanger’s Web site when it is released in October. The Tale of Reggie

Reggie: a rescued boxer "AFTER" Evanger's

Reggie is a 2 year old male Boxer who was abandoned by his owners. Lousiana Boxer Rescue took him into their program in December of 2009. He was literally bald skin wrapped over bones, a fragile soul with kind eyes and a tail that wagged even in the horrific shape he was in. He was diagnosed with Heartworm and demodectic Mange. Spent some time at the veterinary hospital getting strong enough to under go Heartworm treatment, neutering and treatment for Mange. Slowly he gained some of his weight back.
In March 2010 he was transferred to a foster home. His diet was switched to Evanger's Whitefish & Sweet Potato. Still being treated for mange and still very thin, Reggie was introduced to his new food and he gobbled it up happily! In a months time not one bone was showing! His treatment for mange was successful and he was finally knowing what it was to be a happy healthy dog. On April 20, 2010 Reggie found his forever family and left rescue for his new home and new life and another 2 months supply of food.

Thank you is not near enough, Evanger's helped to save this dog through sponsoring Reggie and supplying his food.

This Passover Evanger's Dog and Cat Food Company hosted the first annual non-denominational Passover Seder for Dogs in LA with cohost DogNewsDaily.com. Aside from all the delicious food, LA Animal Services was able to find a loving home for an adorable brown min-pin named, "Paloma" as an homage to the Hotel Palomar where the couple fell in love with the abandoned pup.

Keshet School’s Developmentally Disabled Children Show Skills – Profits Go Back to School

Evanger’s Dog & Cat Food Company is beginning its fourth year of working with the Keshet School’s Vocational Program. This program provides individuals with developmental disabilities a real-world career experience and responsibilities that may otherwise not be available to them.

In the Keshet Vocational Program, students receive an introduction to the workplace and are able to see their own project through from start to finish. Keshet students work with Evanger’s Dog & Cat Food Company to prepare sample bags of dry food: the students label, fill, and seal each bag and are able to apply skills learned to produce a product for in store distribution.

Evanger's invites local residents and consumers to help the students as they enjoy the final stages of their career enhancement on Tuesday, December 15th. The students will meet customers of Pet Supplies “Plus,” in Highland Park, Illinois from 10:30 – 12:00. Keshet students will be passing out samples of the dry food bags they prepared. This will play a large role in helping the children understand product distribution, as well as aid in the effort to raise awareness of children with developmental disabilities.

During the entire month of December, Evanger’s Dog & Cat Food Company will further support Keshet’s Vocational Program by donating a portion of Evanger’s dry dog food purchases to the program when a customer mentions, “Keshet” at checkout.

It was a a fetching feast for the out-of-town guests.
Canned turkey with potatoes and carrots; duck and sweet potato dinners, and bagged pheasant meals were included in the spread laid out for about 50 dogs from puppy mills and shelters at DoGone Fun, 1717 S. State, on Thanksgiving Day. The dogs were on a layover in a trip from Missouri to New York in search of new homes.Twenty of the dogs were rescued from puppy mills and considered unsaleable by their owners. The rest of the group was from a shelter in Joplin, Mo.
Their journey is part of a campaign by Best Friends Animal Society, based in Utah, to eliminate puppy mills that breed dogs under inhumane conditions.

The dogs, all small breeds and mixes, arrived in Chicago by truck. This morning , they'll fly first-class to New York, where there is greater demand for dogs their size.
Pet Airways is providing the flight. Wheeling-based Evanger's Dog & Cat Food Co. donated the chow for their Thanksgiving feast. Other groups, including the Progressive Animal Welfare Society, contributed chewy pigskin chips, dog snacks and toys.
Best Friends is encouraging people thinking of buying puppies during the holiday season to consider adopting, rather than buying animals. "You save a life at the same time," said Kelli Ohrtman of the Utah group.

2010 Calendar Is Finally Here!

After sifting through nearly 2000 entries, the calendar winners have finally been revealed. This year submissions came in from all over the world including North America, Europe, and Asia. The judges had a very difficult time narrowing down 2000 entries to only 12 feature photos.
The emphasis in this calendar was pets that best represented Evanger's core values of health and overall wellbeing. This encompassed happy pets, therapy pets, adopted pets, as well as Champion dog sport exhibitors.

Although the featured fidos and felines are cute and cuddly there are heart wrenching stories behind the photographs. Katie Grimmer writes about when she decided to bring home January's winner, Roxy the Roxstar:

"I've always been a strong supporter of pet adoptions and all the
wonderful work that shelters, sanctuaries and loving foster homes provide for
homeless animals. While browsing a local animal shelter website, I saw a photo
of a 3 year-old, jet-black dog and immediately fell in love. While she was
fantastic at learning commands, tricks, walking outside and was potty trained -
she did lack social skills. If there was an, "incident" with people and other
animals, she would give me a remorseful look as if to plead, 'I'm sorry, please
don't give up on me.' I remind myself that a parent wouldn't give up on their
child if they were going through the same thing. Things don't always come out
perfectly or in a nice, neat little package. I made a commitment to her and I
wasn't going to give up."

A Unique Twist on Evanger's Foods - DIY TREATS #2

Joanna Faber recently shared her homemade recipe by combining Evanger's 100% meats with other ingredients to make delicious cookies and treats. Her last batch sold 80 bags, in which the profits help create and sustain paw park areas in Kentucky. Joanna's new Thanksgiving Recipe is a great way to say thanks to your dog, or dog's friends:

DUCK AND CRANBERRIES

Ingredients:

2 cans of EVANGER'S 100% DUCK
2 cups of pureed fresh cranberries

2 eggs

1/3 cup bone meal (optional)

1 cup ground flax seed

5-6 cups whole wheat flour (enough to make a dough to roll out)

1 can (14 oz) of chicken broth

Cooking directions for Duck & Cranberries (by Joanna Faber):

Roll out on a floured surface.
Cut with cookie cutter shapes and bake at 350 for 30 min
Bake longer if you want crisp cookies

Your Questions Answered - Week 4- How To Read A Pet Food Label

One of the most important parts of feeding your dog or cat a healthy and nutritious diet is understanding what is in the foods you feed. Dr. Elizabette Cohen, a highly-regarded veterinarian in New York, and author of Most Of My Patients Wear Fur: Tales of Small Animals And Their Big City Vet has detailed the important aspects of a pet food label:

The pet food industry is regulated by AAFCO (the Association of American Feed Control), the FDA/CVM (Food and Drug Administration/Center for Veterinary Medicine), the USDA (United States Department of Agriculture), and the FTC (Federal Trade Commission). The list of ingredients states all of the items that are contained in the food from the highest quantity listed first to the least listed last. The first ingredient is the most important one because this is what the food has most of. If the first ingredient is water, skip over to the second ingredient. It should be a good quality protein like found in all of the Evanger’s varieties. If a meat is listed then it is a muscle meat like chicken, turkey, beef, lamb or fish, the best quality proteins.

The biological value of a protein determines how well the body can use it. The better the body can use a protein, the higher the biological value it will have. Protein eaten provides the body nitrogen and amino acids, the building blocks. There are 9 essential amino acids that the body cannot make itself and therefore, must be provided for in the diet. Meat, poultry, fish, eggs and dairy all have a high biological score. For example, eggs have a biological value of 100; beef has a biological value of 80. As far as the vegetarian diet goes, the combination of legumes and grains provide complementary proteins. In other words, separately, these ingredients may not score high because separately, each is missing an essential amino acid (legumes are missing methionine while grains are missing lysine) but together they complement each other with the end result of a good quality, high biological value protein source.

Joanna Faber recently shared a very fun way to help her dog and his pals raise money to support their local park, the Friends of Kenton Paw Park in Covington, Kentucky. Joanna combines Evanger's 100% meats with other ingredients to make delicious cookies and treats, which helps create and sustain attractive paw park areas in Kenton County. We were so delighted to hear about the impact Joanna is making with our foods that we wanted to share her story and wonderful recipes:

"I make my own dog cookies for my own dog and for all his friends at the Kenton Paw Park. I make treats for sale at our fund raising events and they always sell out. Every dog likes treats made with real meat and the especially the gourmet flavors. The dogs go CRAZY for the treats. I walk in the park and get sniffed head to toe by every dog hoping I have brought treats with me. One of the biggest hit this summer was the PAWsicles. I mix your food with yogurt and freeze in a paw shaped candy mold and use a raw hide stick. Every time I make these we sell out.
The dog cookies are met with great joy as well by the dogs. Like I said, if I have any with me at the park, I have a pack of dogs following me.
We are always selling the cookies to bring in money for our park. I've attached the two most used recipes. I am always coming up with new recipes. I just got a request from a toy poodle.

To make Dog Pawsicles, you need 32 OZ of Plain Yogurt and 2 cans of Evanger's 100% meat. Simply mix the yogurt and Evanger's 100% meats together, then freeze the product onto a rawhide stick. Is your cat or dog a bit overweight? If you have a plump pooch, try switching to Evanger's Dry Chicken or Pheasant diet, and replace part of the dry diet with any of the canned meat products. The 100% meat cans, which include duck, chicken, beef, rabbit, pheasant, and buffalo, are low in fat but high in protein-building amino acids and other essential nutrients -- and are also loaded with flavor. This means that your dieting dog can lose weight without feeling starved, and you know you've done something nutritious, balanced, and gentle. Be sure to limit the overall amount of food eaten.

Your Questions Answered - Week 2 - Diarrhea v. Constipation

What Evanger’s product should be recommended if your pet has diarrhea vs. constipation: This is something every pet sale’s person needs to know because some pets have a tendency to either eliminate too much water and others do not eliminate enough because they suffer from dehydration, a kidney problem or a large bowel problem. The end result is stool that is too soft and watery or too hard and dry, and both conditions could be painful for the pet. If a customer has a pet that tends to have diarrhea or constipation more often than normal stool, a veterinary check up is the first step to rule out a disease.

If the vet gives the pet a clean bill of health then the diet needs to be changed to a blander, more constipating one for a diarrhea problem or a higher fat content, more fiber and more water diet for a constipation problem. Any of the Evanger’s diets that have rice in them will help with a soft stool problem. The Lamb and Rice Dinner for example is a gentle diet for the gut. Feeding dry food will also help firm up the stool. If a pet has a stool that is too firm and dry, adding water to an exclusively canned diet can help. Look for a diet that has a higher fat content in it and maybe more fiber like combining the vegetarian can with pure pheasant meat; the combination of more fiber from the vegetarian diet together with more fat from the pheasant diet can help soften the stool up.

In response to the recent Food and Drug Administration action, Evanger’s Dog and Cat Food Co., Inc. has filed a formal request, as allowed by FDA regulations, for reinstatement based on documentation that the company is operating in full compliance with mandatory requirements.

“Our company has been working closely with the FDA and we have already addressed many of their questions,” says Joel Sher, Vice President of Evanger’s. “No Evanger’s product has been recalled, nor is there any indication that Evanger’s products are unsafe or contaminated in any way. Only our canned products have been affected by this action and, again, the FDA has not issued a recall as some blogs have incorrectly stated.”

The FDA action appears to be based on a misunderstanding regarding paperwork updating the company’s processing protocols that was submitted last year. Joel comments, “Our FDA consultants are in the process of re-submitting these files. The safety and quality of all Evanger’s products is our number one concern and we are working closely with FDA to ensure that all record keeping and processes have met, and will continue to meet their strict guidelines.”

The irony is that the mega-pet food companies with all sorts of crap in their food that poisons dogs are FDA approved since they have teams of lawyers to keep on top of all the paperwork and likely have assigned reps who work with them guiding them through the process. To All Valued EVANGER’S DOG AND CAT FOOD CO., INC. Customers,

As you may be aware, the United States Food and Drug Administration has taken action against our company. Although there are no recalls, or any allegations of unsafe foods manufactured by Evanger’s, we feel that we must respond to this situation with a detailed report to you, our customers.

The main reason for the suspension of our permit involves confusion while updating the FILED SCHEDULED PROCESSES as required by F.D.A. rules 21 CFR 108.35(2) and 21 CFR 113.83. The rules dictate that all “STYLES” of food must be studied for adequate heat penetration to achieve “commercial sterility”. This procedure usually involves the understanding that heat penetrates different consistencies of product at different rates. For example, heat penetrates Evanger’s 100% ALL MEAT COOKED CHICKEN at a different rate than Evanger’s ALL FRESH VEGETARIAN style formula.

Our “Process Authority” (F.D.A. recognized expert) communicated to the F.D.A. that he intended to file a single SCHEDULED PROCESS that would cover ALL loaf style foods that are manufactured at Evanger’s using the “MOST RIGOROUS” process (VEGETARIAN). The intention being, that applying this process to all of our loaf style products would add an additional layer of safety. At the same time, our Process Authority indicated that he would “CLEAN UP” our file by deleting older processes.

In August of 2008, our process authority completed the update of our file.

During a regularly scheduled inspection by the F.D.A. earlier this year, the FDA inspector informed us that the FILED PROCESSES that we normally use were deleted from our file. Furthermore, the only FILED PROCESS that remained only allowed us to manufacture “VEGETARIAN” foods. To give you a complete picture of the facts, here is the actual explanation that was sent to us by the F.D.A. as cited for the reason for taking action (SEE ATTACHED)

[FDA STATEMENT FOLLOWS]

Your firm’s processing authority’s response stated it had replaced two older filings with a new filing, Submission Identifier (SID) 2008-03-21/003, to cover all variations of “Loaf Style” pet food produced by Evanger’s in the 300 x 400 can size including “Vegetarian Style Loaf”. However, documentation on all formula types that your firm intended to include under this filing was not provided. Compliance with 21 CFR 108.35(c)(2) will require your firm to submit a filing for each of the above products, including the ingredients for the various formulations. The additional products that can be called “loafs” using the same process will need their own SID unless they can be included in the existing filing (SID 2008-03-21/003) in which case your processing authority will have to show that these additional products heat the same or faster than the product originally filed as SID 2008-03-21/003 and that the filed minimum scheduled process is sufficient for the safety of all the various product formulations.

Your firm failed to submit to FDA, within 30 days after first use, a complete description of the modification made and utilized and a copy of the file record showing prior substantiation by a qualified scientific authority for the following products as required by 21 CFR 108.35(c)(2)(ii):

· On 8/12/08, TechniCAL (your contracted process authority) cancelled SID# 1996-03-15/001 and SID# 1977-08-23/001, Loaf Style Dog and Cat Food Ground Meat & Grain Blends in tinplate steel 300 x 405 and 300 x 407 cans, respectively. FDA was not notified of the change from the can size filed to 300 x 400 for Loaf Style Dog and Cat Food Ground Meat & Grain Blends.

In short, Evanger’s and its Process Authority believe the processes filed with F.D.A. cover all its products, though FDA appears to disagree.

The management of EVANGER’S is working closely with the F.D.A and our Process Authority to resolve this matter quickly.

PLEASE KEEP IN MIND THESE IMPORTANT FACTS:

· The issue involves only canned food products.

· THERE ARE NO RECALLS OR SAFETY ISSUES ASSOCIATED WITH THIS SITUATION.

· All Evanger’s products that are currently on store shelves are safe as they always have been.

· Evanger’s Dog and Cat Food Co., Inc. continues and will continue to manufacture the highest quality, nutritious, wholesome, innovative and safe pet foods and treats as it has done for over 75 years.

Dear Evangers,

I wanted to take this opportunity to share a story with you and thank you for providing such a fine dog food. For the past two years, I have become involved in dog rescue. Currently, I am fostering a terrific little dog, named Jasmine. Her pic is below. I rescued Jasmine from a rural Georgia shelter in early January. She had severe mange, worms, developed an upper respiratory infection and other maladies so common to shelter pups. I took her immediately from the shelter to the vet.

She was treated for several weeks and I took her home to foster last week before she could go into her wonderful designated rescue program. The plan was to have her in my home for almost two weeks. My nutritional goals for Jasmine were simple. I wanted to feed her the best possible food, help her gain weight, help restore her coat and help her to feel and look her best for her forever home.

I found the Evangers dog food at our local Red Bandanna Pet Food Store. I mixed it with her dry dog food so as not to upset her stomach. Jasmine loved this food and in the little over a week that I have had her so far, she has gained 3.5 lbs., her coat is so shiny it looks wet, and the hair growth is almost complete. She looks so beautiful and you can tell she feels great. I very much believe that nutritionally superior foods are a key part to helping restore a dogs health and vigor. I am so pleased with her progress and plan to send some Evangers dog foods to her new home. She is a wonderful, wonderful, dog and she deserves the very best.

The calendar will be offered free at select pet stores nationwide with a purchase of an Evanger's product, and will be available for $5.95 through our website when it is released in October. The deadline to submit photographs is August 31, 2009.

I live in Montville, Northern New Jersey, approximately 30 minutes west of NYC. I just started feeding Harley Evangers recently, but have known about your company for quite a while. (I have taken a large interest in animal health and nutrition over the past 8 years and always look for the best). You are also on my vet's recommended feeding list (Dr. Marty Goldstein at Smith Ridge Veterinary Clinic)
Harley always ate raw, but has stopped. He doesn't want to eat anything other than his treats & people food, and your canned entree's make it easier for me when I can't cook for him. He has his moments...last night he DEVOURED a can of "Hunk of Beef" but wouldn't touch it this morning......he's a handful when it comes to feeding time! This tournament is hosted by the X-Fidos Flyball Team.

Flyball has actually been around since the late 1960's. It is unusual in that it is a team sport – a high-adrenaline canine relay race.

It starts with two 4-dog teams in side-by-side lanes. At the signal light (which is very much like the light that starts drag races) the first dog on each team crosses the starting line. It runs 51 feet over four jumps to a spring-loaded box. The dog must hit the box with its paws to release a tennis ball, catch it, and return with it over the four jumps. As it crosses the start line, the next dog is on its way.

The team who successfully runs all four dogs in the least amount of time wins the race. It is not uncommon for entire races to be over in less than 20 seconds!

Unlike other pet food companies, the owners of Evanger's, Holly and Joel Sher, personally oversee the total quality control and processing of raw materials seven days a week. Being hands-on with our produce and meat vendors, food production, and distribution ensures that every single Evanger's product stands for safety and quality.

We prefer to use free-range poultry and game meat whenever possible. Our dry dog food menu consists of Pheasant and Brown Rice, Chicken and Brown Rice, Venison, and White Fish and Sweet Potato. All of these dry dog food selections are manufactured in the Midwest, near Evanger's headquarters in Illinois.

Our products consist of fresh, natural and superior ingredients, with no additives, preservatives, artificial colors, by-products, salt, hormones or antibiotics, to ensure quality on a human-grade level. We do not use any soy, corn, or wheat products in our foods, which makes Evanger's products popular among pets with allergies and diabetes.
